There have been countless theories and documentaries surrounding the death of Tupac. One thing thats’s never been zoomed in on is his relationship with his first love, his mother — until now. Get ready to find out what life was really like for the mother/son duo.
Throughout his life and career, Tupac has been very vocal about the love he possesses for Ms. Afeni Shakur. Well, years after their deaths, a new docuseries is coming to a TV near you to shed light on their special bond.
According to Deadline, Outlaw: The Saga of Afeni and Tupac Shakur, will be five-part series detailing the life and times of Pac and Afeni. The Defiant Ones director, Allen Hughes, has his hands on this project and the story will be told by those who really knew the legendary rapper.
Hughes also directed Tupac’s role in the 1993 classic, Menace II Society,” in which his brother co-directed. After disagreements on set, Tupac was allegedly fired from the cast and later attacked Hughes on the set of a music video in ’93. Tupac then bragged about the assault on Yo! MTV Raps, and in 1994, was found guilty of the assault and sentenced to 15 days in jail.
In a 2018 interview, Hughes revealed that he never got over his disdain for Pac until recently. “On one level, Tupac was one of the sweetest people I ever met.” he said. He then revealed that Pac actually apologized in a VIBE magazine interview. “I didn’t really come to peace with it until I was done with The Defiant Ones.” Check out a clip of Hughes’ interview above.
According to Deadline, Outlaw: The Saga of Afeni and Tupac Shakur will explore Tupac and Afeni's "message of freedom, equality, persecution and justice." The date hasn't been announced, but you can catch the series on FX.
